WELCOME from the Florence : Scenes From A Life Team
When the lockdown was announced we lost 12 performances during Florence's 200th birthday week..
It was a disappointment after two years work but the team are determined if nothing else.
I think it was me who came up with the idea to record a version for the internet. Ellie, in her London home, recorded the adaptation onto her phone. When that was all done I tweaked a few things and sent the files to Mat. The daft thing is that the files went via the internet despite the fact that Mat lives no more than 100 yards from me.
Thanks to Ron Middleton and Sheila Kay Sly for recording a couple of short pieces.
The result of all this is Florence :Scenes From A Life.
Having said all of that let me introduce you to Team Florence and I'll begin with Ellie Ward who is Florence Nightingale. Derbyshire born Ellie now lives in London where she works as a writer, actor, director and producer. Ellie is writing the school's version of the original play Kissing Miss Nightingale's Shadow. Mat Williams - singer ,songwriter, multi faceted musician and a hugely talented man who can make a fiddle talk. John Tams career covers 50 years and we hope he will go on for another fifty. For 12 years he was musical director at the National Theatre. He returned to take up the role of songmaker for the hugely successful NT production of 'War Horse'. His enthusiastic support for the Florence project has been invaluable, especially those moments when he said "have you thought of...".
Hopefully, when the new normal comes over the horizon, we'll see you in the flesh at a performance.
George Gunby (Writer, Producer, Director - Kissing Miss Nightingale's Shadow. Adapted for Florence Nightingale 200)
